Looks can often be deceptive, and sometimes in the motor industry it is intentional.
The Nissan X-Trail has a loyal following and customers indicated that they wanted more of the same. So the designers were faced with a dilemma – how to give them more of the same but make it all new.
At first glance, the new X-Trail looks somewhat like the old model but when you look closely every panel in the body is new. In fact, on even closer inspection, the new model is bigger, longer, taller and wider than the award winning outgoing model.
In the new version, a lot of attention has been given to the off-roading design as the X-Trail has scored over more expensive rivals in the past in this area.
The ground clearance is 200mm and now the short overhangs front and rear are slanted up to avoid bodywork damage during steep climbs and descents.
The new model also gets an electronically controlled All-Mode four-wheel drive train with 'hill start' and 'hill descent' safety controls built in.
Push a control lever and you can choose two-wheel drive for tarmac motoring, or a full four-wheel drive system. The price of the two-litre SE petrol 140 PS 4X2 is €32,950, with the two-litre diesel 150 PS costing €5,000 more.
The diesels with SVE top specification and 4X4 drive cost €45,100 and €46,600, depending on the power output, and there is also an automatic transmission version for €47,100. Air conditioning and six airbags are standard equipment
